First Blog Entry: To be completed before class, Wednesday, January 20

Length: at least 450 words

• Click "Sign In" in the upper-right-hand corner, then "New Post." If it doesn’t want to let you post to the blog, email me and remind me to add you as a contributor!

• Make your first blog entry. In that entry, please spend at least 450 words answering the following questions:

• What are you studying, and why do you like it?
• Have you had good or bad experiences in English courses? What were they?
• What do you hope to learn in this class? (Don’t be lame and say, “I want to learn about African American literature.” Be more specific than that.)
• How would you describe your subject positionality—your place in the social landscape that surrounds you? For instance, you might say that you’re a a Korean-Irish-American man from a working-class Catholic background, or you might say that you’re a white Southern lesbian debutante, or that you’re a disabled Native American athlete from the West Coast . . . what identity markers are important to you, and why? In what situations, and in what senses, are you an insider—and in what situations and senses are you an outsider? How have such categories worked to make you who you are?
